AHOLD Giant-Landover “green” prototype store opens

At the end of last week, Ahold Giant Food in the USA opened its latest prototype store, a full-service, food-and-pharmacy combination "Super Giant" in Urbana, MD, that the retailer characterises as a "departure from conventional Giant stores" in terms of state-of-the-art energy efficiency, among other amenities. The prototype store features such energy-efficient concepts as a lighting system using "daylight collectors" to illuminate the sales floor area, and computer sensors throughout the store that will automatically dim the lighting based on the amount of daylight detected by the sensors.
