PUBLIX tests fresh meals concept
Publix plans to launch a fresh meals concept at a new store in Lake Mary, FL. Opening on April 12, the 4,740 square-metre store will feature seven “venues” including: an Asian kitchen, a carvery, rotisserie, a culinary counter, and artisan sandwich bar, artisan salad bar and a Mediterranean pizza station. "We're competing with fast-casual restaurants, and we understand that all our customers have different needs," said Maria Brous, director of media and community relations. Prices range on average from USD7.99 to USD11.99. A café seating area with its own entrance and checkouts will be available for shoppers who want to eat instore, although durable takeaway packaging will be used for take home consumption. "Some of them want to shop the store and cook from scratch, while others want to grab something already prepared and take it home. This merges the best of both worlds."
