METRO to launch in Indonesia

According to unconfirmed reports in Indonesia, citing the Minister of Agriculture, Anton Apriyantono, Metro Group is to launch in the country via its cash & carry format with investments of USD500 million. No timeframe for the launch has been provided.

Separately, it has been reported that the Deputy German Ambassador to Indonesia, Wolfgang Piecha, has confirmed that Metro plans to make investments in the wholesale sector, "The retailer will first conduct a feasibility study until July."

Reportedly, Metro will open at least 20 cash & carry outlets in Bandung, Jakarta, Surabaya, Central Java, Bali, and Sumatra.
