METRO launches national initiative for nutrition/exercise in Germany
Metro Group and German football coach Joachim Löw have joined forces for a healthy lifestyle by launching a national initiative for nutrition and exercise. The number of overweight people is growing steadily. With the ‘Gut für Dich’ (‘good for you’) initiative, Metro intends to motivate consumers to follow a balanced diet and more exercise to avoid and to counteract overweight problems. The initiative include a comprehensive information campaign and the Metro Group banners Real, Extra and Galeria Kaufhof will support ‘Gut für Dich’ with their own activities. Real and Extra will highlight the significance of a balanced diet for health in their stores. They already offer a substantial share of energy-reduced items in all ranges. Currently, the banners have a total number of more than 2,400 wellness, light and active products. Galeria Kaufhof is supporting ‘Gut für Dich’ in the sports departments as well as with theme-specific activities. Metro Group has also introduced a new nutrition labelling for indicating the nutritional value of its private label products to help customers when selecting food products.
