Rewe Group has agreed with Edeka to take over 133 of Edeka's ailing Marktkauf DIY stores in Germany. According to Lebensmittel Zeitung, Edeka will pay a surcharge of EUR120 million (USD158 million) to get rid of the stores. Through this move, Rewe will become Germany's third-largest DIY store operator behind Tengelmann-owned OBI and Praktiker. Around 17 stores that are not part of the deal are expected to be closed.
