AHOLD looking to buy Hema in the Netherlands

According to unconfirmed reports in the Dutch press this morning, Ahold is looking to buy the retail franchise Hema, possibly for more than EUR1 billion (USD1.3 billion). Hema was recently put up for sale by Maxeda and has over 350 stores in the Netherlands, Belgium, Germany and Luxembourg. Ahold has declined to comment on the reports.
