VIRGIN MEGASTORES and CARPHONE WAREHOUSE to launch digital download service in the UK

Virgin Megastores, through its Virgin Digital banner, and the Carphone Warehouse have announced that they are going to join forces to allow consumers the chance to download music. The step is being described as a way for both companies to have the chance “to explore new markets”. Virgin Digital will become the web site’s exclusive music download partner and will provide it with an e-commerce platform. The two companies have said that the web site, whose address is MyMobileMusic.co.uk, will enable customers to download a selection of more than 2.5 million tracks, alongside a range of other services. Commenting on the development, Virgin Retail’s marketing and new media director, Steve Kincaid, said: “This is a fantastic opportunity for both parties to reach music fans with an easy-to-use and quality download service”. Carphone Warehouse’s online director, Andy Brown, added: “The partnership allows us to add value to our customers’ online experience and will allow Carphone Warehouse to benefit from Virgin's rich musical heritage. We know from our experience of working with Virgin Mobile in France, as Phone Store, that partnerships with Virgin companies allow us to leverage their brand values and expertise to create compelling content for our enviable customer base.”
